These Maori names have been ‘borrowed’ from English names and you may be able to recognise them. 

Try to do them yourself first, before checking on the Internet (Maori Dictionary, Google Translate)

Clues: All Maori words end in a vowel. 

 

The Maori alphabet is only 15 letters, so some English letters are used more than once

In Maori no S, Z, J  often substituted to H

      L becomes R V becomes W 

      B becomes P C becomes K

      D becomes T

      G becomes K

Eg: Maria – Maria Ruka – Luke

Method: Control x from third column, Control v into middle column. 

   When finished, delete the empty column.
