Abstract Noun

For this week’s literacy task, we created a Digital Learning Object (DLO) focused on abstract nouns, which we then incorporated into poetry. We wrote two different poems: one based on the novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, and another based on an abstract noun we chose completely out of a list of different abstract nouns.

Poem 1: The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
For this poem, my group and I chose the abstract noun loneliness. To bring the emotion to life, we incorporated imagery and wrote our peom including  our various senses, including olfactory (smell), tactile (touch), gustatory (taste), and visual (sight).

Poem 2: Our Choice
For our random abstract noun, we selected dedication. We used our olfactory, visual, and tactile senses to depict what dedication looks and feels like. For example, for our olfactory description, we imagined that dedication smells sweet and salty, mixed with the citrusy scent of commitment.

I really enjoyed this task because I got to learn more about our senses. I also found it incredibly interesting to explore how abstract nouns can be expressed through creative writing.

Building Hope

After reading the Diary of Anne Frank and “The boy in the stripped Pajamas” we talked about what people must have felt like having their while world turned upside down.  I cant imagine what it felt like having my lives locked up behind endless fences and faced extremely bad treatment every day.

Yesterday we discussed how we could put their cloth of dreams back together again.  This activity was insipered by the book “Teaspoon of Light”.  Where we drew on a 90cm cloth using pastels of every colours besides black, white and peach,  drawing things that we thought repersented Hope,Dreams,Freedom and Family.  Doing this we were able to collaborate and focus more about creative expressions.

The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas

WE listned to the audio book of “The boy in the Stripped pajamas” by John Boyne.  After each chapter we explained the mood and atmosphere.  Mood what the character is feeling in the story based on the situation their in,  Atomshpere is the vibe of the room.  We worked collaboratively  to summarise each chapter in 10 sentences.  We worked together to bring our ten sentence ideas and make a very brief but informative paragraph. This allowed us to summarize in less words while gathering the same amount of information.

At first, a guide from Mrs. Anderson made chapters 2–9 easy to manage. She then challenged us with a laminated step-by-step sheet but no feedback. By the final chapters, we didn’t even need the sheet because the process was engraved in our minds. Reflecting on this history, I found it tragic how different cultures and religions were targeted; there was no need for such hatred, and the conflict should have been kept strictly between the actual combatants of World War II.
